1952 - Film extrusion
The foundation of our corporate group is laid: Engineer Gerhard Hansen founds Thermo-Pack, which extrudes, prints, and processes PE films.
We are the inventors of Blow-Fill-Seal (BFS) technology and flexible containment systems. Our ideas and comprehensive solutions ensure that pharmaceuticals, in particular, can be filled safely and sustainably—by our customers or on their behalf. This is made possible by our divisions' unique range of services and the more than 2,000 employees in our family-owned corporate group.
Health and physical well-being are vital resources, further fueling the megatrend of health. This trend now permeates all areas and defines entire lifestyles. With our Blow-Fill-Seal technology, aseptic filling systems, specialized pharmaceutical services, and single-use containment systems, we make an active and important contribution to this.
Using Blow-Fill-Seal, vital medications and various healthcare products are produced safely, quickly, and sustainably. Flecotec containment systems protect employees and products in active ingredient and (bio-)pharmaceutical production from contamination and toxic substances. All our solutions guarantee easy handling and reduce operational errors in the manufacturing process, during transport, and during application. We are passionate about this work and continually motivate ourselves to achieve peak performance.
History
We proudly look back on 70 years—and resolutely forward. We have big plans and are excited to actively shape the future.
The foundation of our corporate group is laid: Engineer Gerhard Hansen founds Thermo-Pack, which extrudes, prints, and processes PE films.
Gerhard Hansen creates the first prototype of a BFS bottelpack machine. Because it had to fit into the freight elevator, he designed it to be extremely compact—a feature we have maintained to this day.
Kocher-Plastik Maschinenbau GmbH for bottelpack machines begins operations in Sulzbach-Laufen, Germany. Rommelag AG takes over sales in the neighboring countries in Buchs, Switzerland.
To advance machine sales in West Germany, Rommelag Kunststoff-Maschinen Vertriebsgesellschaft mbH is founded in Waiblingen, Germany.
Bottelpack machines begin production in Switzerland with the launch of Maroplastic in Reitnau.
Enthusiasm for bottelpack machines is growing worldwide. They are used in the food and pharmaceutical sectors in Asia and Latin America.
Not every company finds owning its own bottelpack machine to be the best option. Therefore, Gerhard Hansen founded Holopack Verpackungstechnik in Sulzbach-Laufen, Germany, and began contract filling on behalf of customers.
A contract filling plant is also established in Switzerland: Maropack AG in Zell. Initially, the products were mainly pesticides, motor oils, and windshield cleaners.
Holopack Verpackungstechnik gets a second plant. Due to a lack of space, it is built in Abtsgmünd-Untergröningen, Germany. Setup and management are overseen by Gerhard Hansen's son, Bernd Hansen.
To strengthen sales and service, Rommelag USA was founded in Colorado.
Dipl.-Ing. Bernd Hansen takes over as managing partner of the Hansen Group.
Holopack International is founded in Columbia, South Carolina, USA. It also fills pharmaceutical products on behalf of customers and in accordance with FDA guidelines.
Officially first-class: The quality management system according to ISO 9001 is introduced in the corporate group.
Contract filling is in demand: At Rommelag CMO, the fiftieth bottelpack machine is installed.
Keeping up with the times: The quality management system is updated to ISO 9001:2000 standards.
Two occasions to celebrate: The thousandth bottelpack machine goes into operation, and the Swiss Rommelag Representative Office is established in Shanghai.
The fourth generation of bottelpack machines begins service.
To strengthen sales and service in Asia, Rommelag Trading is founded in Shanghai.
The BIGE building with Biosafety Level 2 was inaugurated at Maropack AG in Zell, Switzerland. It's the world's first BFS production facility that meets this standard for filling biological pharmaceuticals and genetically engineered active ingredients (APIs).
Pharmaceutical production at the latest state of the art: At Holopack Verpackungstechnik in Sulzbach-Laufen, Germany, the new Pharma 2020 building is put into operation. This includes a suite concept for pharmaceutical producers.
Temperature-sensitive products require special care. With the cool-BFS process, Maropack AG in Zell, Switzerland, can now safely fill these products on behalf of customers in the BSL-2 facility.
In Sulzbach-Laufen, Germany, the bottelpack Training Center is inaugurated for product training, as well as the installation, qualification, and validation of a multifunctional CoEx bottelpack machine.
We celebrate 50 years of Kocher-Plastik Maschinenbau GmbH and 50 years of Rommelag Switzerland. The corporate group proudly looks back on more than 1,800 bottelpack machines sold in over 80 countries.
Flecotec AG in Badenweiler, Germany, became part of the Hansen Group. It develops and manufactures single-use containment solutions for the highly sensitive sampling, weighing, and filling processes of the pharmaceutical industry.
Holopack Verpackungstechnik celebrates its 40th anniversary and successful contract filling in Sulzbach-Laufen and Abtsgmünd-Untergröningen, Germany.
The Hansen Group companies unite under a strong brand: Rommelag. Their services are distributed across four divisions: Engineering, CMO, Flex, and Service.
We have double the reason to celebrate: We mark 50 years of Rommelag Germany and the founding of Rommelag iLabs GmbH in Karlsruhe, Germany. Rommelag iLabs develops digitalization solutions around our bottelpack machines.
Another reason to celebrate: Maroplastic in Reitnau, Switzerland, turns 50.
The Rommelag corporate group is awarded the TOP 100 seal for innovation success and innovation management.
We are launching the bottelpack 500 series, starting with the bp 530: a revolution in Blow-Fill-Seal technology.
Our top priorities are the development and well-being of our employees. At Rommelag, these are not empty promises; our processes have been certified by the Top Employers Institute based on international standards.
